Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). First detected in 2019 in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei, China, the disease has since spread globally resulting in the coronavirus pandemic of 2019–20. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought travel to a standstill. Because of my work as an active researcher, I used to travel quite often around the world prior the COVID-19 pandemic.
Do you want to join our vibrant and motivated research team at OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University, and start your research journey in the field of robotics, artificial intelligence, intelligent health, smart cities? The following three exciting PhD Fellowships are currently open for application:
I was honoured to represent Norway at the IEEE Region 8 Committee Meeting March 21, 2020 - Virtual Event. IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The meeting was originally planned to be held in Warsaw, Poland, but because of the pandemic, it was decided to have a WebEx instead. We are facing challenging times. But as always, there are opportunities to learn and move forward together.
A new paper has been accepted for publication in the Proc. of the 3rd IEEE International Conference on Information and Computer Technologies (ICICT), Silicon Valley, San Jose, United States, March 9-12, 2020. The selected article is: Filippo Sanfilippo and Claudio Pacchierotti. A Low-Cost Multi-Modal Auditory-Visual-Tactile Framework for Remote Touch. Congratulations to my PhD supervisor, Professor Kristin Ytterstad Pettersen, on being awarded the Bode Prize for her groundbreaking research, "the closest you get to the Nobel Prize in cybernetics".
As you may know, the IEEE Norway Section is now approaching for voting. Voting will start from Dec. 1st 2019 and close at Dec 15th 2019. For the health of our section, I really encourage you to take the time to exercise your vote to choose our future.
On Friday 22.11.2019, a television crew from the Italian channel La7 visited the Dept. of Engineering Sciences, University of Agder (UiA), Grimstad. The crew interviewed me and other colleagues. The crew also also visited the university facilities and laboratories, such as the Mechatronics Innovation Lab (MIL) and the I4Helse arena. The crew was very interested in assistive technology for elderly people.
