How startups digitise SMEs in the industry

During Arendalsuka, I had the pleasure to represent the University of Agder (UiA) by participating to an interesting panel discussion organised by Tvillingfabrikken. Other contributors to the panel were Innovation Norway, the SIVA incubator Proventia, the software tech company Dimension Four, as well as one of our customers Slamrensing. The panel discussion was entitled "How startups digitise SMEs in the industry". This is an interesting series of contributors that has led to innovation and digitisation in a green growth company like Slamrensing, while at the same time it has given Tvillingfabrikken a great foundation to build its business model and platform for digital twins.

With my contribution, I highlighted that digital twins represent the enabling technology for digitalising SMEs.

Best Paper Award at the 7th International STEM Education Conference (iSTEM-Ed 2022)

Best Paper Award at the 7th International STEM Education Conference (iSTEM-Ed 2022).

I am very glad to announce that our work has won the "Best Paper Award" at the 7th International STEM Education Conference (iSTEM-Ed 2022). The awarded scientific article is: Filippo Sanfilippo, Martin Økter, Tine Eie and Morten Ottestad. An Open Framework for teaching Motion Control for Mechatronics Education. In Proc. of the 7th International STEM Education Conference (iSTEM-Ed 2022), Sukhothai, Thailand. 2022.

This paper proposes the introduction of a novel open prototyping framework that involves using low-cost commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and tools for the module of motion control, within mechatronics education. The goal of this study is to propose a novel structure for the motion control module in the engineering mechatronics curriculum. This is accomplished by integrating students in a series of well-organised theoretical lectures as well as hands-on, highly engaging laboratory group projects. Surface learning parts and deep learning sections are combined frequently to encourage learners to grasp, make connections, and expand their knowledge. The structure of the course as well as the key topics are discussed. The proposed open framework, which consist of an elevator model, is presented in details. The open source repository is available on-line at https://github.com/Microttus/Elevator-model/.

I am very proud as two of our students, Martin Økter, Tine Eie, have co-authored this work. This proves the importance of combining teaching with research as part of an innovative educational and research loop.

I really thank all my co-authors and I congratulate all of them for their contribution.

The conference was very well organised. It was great to meet with colleagues from different institutions. Huge potential for collaboration. I would like to thank Prof. Dr.Athikom Roeksabutr, President Electrical Engineering Academic Association (Thailand), and Prof. Peerapat Owatchaiyapong, Technical Program Committee Chair, Center for Biomedical and Robotics Technology (BART LAB), Thailand.

Prof. Dr.Athikom Roeksabutr, offered me to be part of the Technical Program Committee for the next editions of iSTEM-Ed. I am looking forward to contribute.
